There are many factors that determine the success of a blog. In essence the success of any blog is measured by the amount of traffic it can attract. There are different ways that can be used to help drive traffic to ones’ blog. Mentioned henceforth are a few of these:
1. Choose trendy and useful topics
Determine the topics you would like to write on. Choose popular topics that appeal to a large array of readers. This would increase chances of more hits on your site.
2. Choose the right keywords
Be smart when it comes to choosing the right set of keywords for your blogs. One can use keyword Meta tags or description tags to attract better results. Some knowledge of these concepts can come in really handy to the blogger. Keywords do not really matter for Google but search engines such as Bing does value these!
3. Comment on other blogs
Link your blog with other blogs. This can be done by posting comments on others blog and along with that posting links in the same that let the user further read. However this must be done tactfully as one should post comments on blogs of same genre else the technique won’t come in handy.
4. Know your audience
Have some kind of prior knowledge about the audience you would like to cater to. There is some difference between how your blog will be perceived in different parts of the globe. For example any joke about gods won’t go well in India but it won’t be a problem in Europe.
5. It’s not about an elite system!

For driving traffic to your blog you can take help of various directories such as Ezine etc. You can post a small synopsis about your blog in these directories. This can divert a significant amount of traffic to your blog.
8. Words of mouth
Words of mouth also play an active part in popularizing the blog. You can invite your friends to comment on your blog and ask them to pass on the word. If your peers find the content good enough, then they can really help your blog get popular.
9. Continuous and healthy content
Keep a healthy content on your blog. In fact content is the most crucial factor while determining blog traffic.
10. Get some boost

Another thing, really important and that is not said everywhere, don’t just choose a template because it is cute, choose a search engine optimised one. It is at least one guarantee of organic traffic from search engines in the bag.

That’s well said. There are some themes which are so badly designed that makes s.e bots cry lol.
It is also about simple posts which do not take much time to read or else readers will not lose time to read long essay type blog posts.
